Hilary Schweitzer created My Legacy Story out of a deep understanding of how precious and meaningful personal stories can be. The idea took root when she lost a close friend during childbirth at just 25 years old. As her friend’s daughter grew up, she had countless questions about her mother—who she was, where she came from, and how she fit into the generations before her. Hilary did her best to create a scrapbook of her friend’s life, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that so much was missing—the firsthand stories, the personal reflections, the unique voice that only her friend could have shared.

Years later, while working with seniors as an activity coordinator in an independent living facility, Hilary led a life-story project with residents, encouraging them to answer meaningful questions about their lives. After one resident’s sudden passing, her daughter discovered the completed workbook and was deeply moved—realizing there was so much she hadn’t known about her mother’s thoughts, experiences, and perspectives. That moment solidified Hilary’s mission: to create a simple, accessible way for people to share their stories while they can, in their own words, for their loved ones to treasure.
